Frequently Asked Questions

Does your membership grant access to the climbing gyms in Edinburgh?

No - Unfortunately you have to pay to climb each week. However we are sponsored by Eden rock so our membership gets you discounted entry (£5) on Wednesdays!

Do I have to buy both Memberships?

No - You only need one membership. Outdoor membership gives you all the benefits of indoor membership and the ability to climb outdoors etc.

When do you climb?

We climb on Wednesday afternoons at climbing walls around Edinburgh. Years 1-5 get Wednesday afternoons off to play sports, unfortunately GEP 1 don't get every Wednesday afternoon off. We organise the destination and transport through our WhatsApp group and often lifts are available to and from the wall.

When are your social events?

Our socials are usually on Wednesday evenings after climbing. We often change it up each week. Every other week we meet at Potterow for free food! Past socials have included movie nights, going to local pubs, trampolining, and potluck.

I don't have my own kit can I still climb?

Yes! - The club owns a range of climbing shoes, harnesses, and belay plates that are included in both memberships. Hire is free!

I haven't ever climbed before, can I join the club?

Yes - we cater for a range of experience levels from complete beginners to people who have been climbing their whole life. A lot of our members started climbing when they started university. We offer training sessions where we teach you the basics of how to climb and our committee are always happy to help support new members.

I don't have kit that is on the kit list (for a weekend away)

It is your responsibility to ensure you bring the kit required when going on training weekends, Tour or day trips. The club does have a gear store with climbing kit that can be borrowed. If you need something from the gear store please contact the gear secretary to arrange pick up and drop off. If the kit you need isn't covered by the gear store you can try asking older members for help. If you turn up without the correct kit you could end up being very uncomfortable or worse not be allowed to climb.
